Loriano Pagni, also known as TheDaddy, has put a lot of effort into this project. It’s good to see that he has now reached his goal and that the case will go into production. If you read this, then I must congratulate you on your terrific work!
Interested parties suggested prices, ranging from £70 to £520. A decision has been made to price it somewhere in the middle. Only 50 units will be made, and orders will be filled on a “first come, first served” basis.
The X500 Plus will be priced at £259 (GBP) + packaging and postage. and will be shipped in a plain, brown, double wall cardboard box.
What’s included:

PS: This project has sucked a lot of energy, free time and money, my entire classic, NG Amiga and Commodore collection, plus my car (twice!) and a few other items which ended up on ebay during seven years. You probably already know but I’ll be making these at a loss for a while but I love it and I hope you’re going to love it too. Add sad music here.
Thank you to everyone who’s been supporting this project, you know who you are.
For your mini-itx or flex-atx x86, SAM, FPGAArcade Replay, Efika boards, etc.
TheDaddy has made some videos about the X500 Plus. I’ve embedded one for you below, so that you can get an impression of the product. Hope you’ll enjoy it!
I’m thinking that this case would be perfect for my AROS setup. I currently got a mini-ITX box for it, but it would be awesome to move all the hardware into the X500 Plus instead.
Today it’s time for another Amiga demo I recently discovered. It is called 40 & a Blunt and was made by Y-Crew. It was released at the Maximum Overdose 10 demo party in 2012 (28-12-12 to 30-12-12 in Lübeck, Germany) and ranked as number three in the competition. It is not actually a demo though, since it falls into the 40KB intro category. An Amiga 500 with 1MB of RAM will run it fine.
The music in the intro was made by my old friend Rebb of Paradise & TRSI and he sent a greeting to me in the production. If you by any chance read this Rebb, I must say thank you for the greet. Will contact you again soon.
40 & a Blunt is an old-school type intro, featuring several golden oldie effects. It took me back in time and I enjoyed the ride. The music is a cosy chiptune and it fits well with the overall theme of the intro. I enjoyed watching the plasma and copper effect and reading the text at the end of the production (many messages from the creators to other people etc). If you want to watch it yourself, I’ve embedded a video from YouTube below. If you’ve got an Amiga, you can download the intro via the download-link at the end of this post. Hope you’ll enjoy watching it!
First of all, I’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year! Hope you’ll have a great 2013!
As you can see from the logo above (thanks to The Heretic for making that one for me by the way), this is another piece about my collection of old-school games.
This time I’d like to present a true gem in my Amiga collection. The name of the game is Colonization and it was created by none other than Sid Meier/MicroProse. The Amiga version was released back in 1995 and it came on three floppy disks. It requires 1MB of RAM to run. You can install it to a hard drive if you want.
Here’s a photo of the box. They sure knew how to make inviting box art back then. It is in pretty good condition as well (photo by Old School Game Blog).
Here’s the back of the box. “Be there at the Birth of a Nation!” (photo by Old School Game Blog).
So, what kind of game is Colonization? It is a turn-based strategy game where the aim is to colonize a new world and later on secede from the country you came from, just like what happened to the United States in our own history. You’ll have to wage war, build towns and cities, be a clever fox in the art of diplomacy and earn resources and gold through trade to succeed in your quest.
The game is quite complex, but it’s not too difficult to learn, since it contains a decent tutorial. If you’ve played one of the Civilization games on the PC or another platform, you should feel right at home with Colonization. As you can see from the photo below, the game comes with a ton of manuals and instructions.
The manuals and disks. All in good condition. On the far left, you can see the official strategy guide for the game (photo by Old School Game Blog).
Colonization received favourable reviews in several Amiga magazines back in the 1990′s. Amiga Format gave it 95%, Amiga Power 93% and CU Amiga 91%.
One thing which I think is great with the Amiga version is that it utilizes the OS of the computer to the full. When you play the game for the first time, it is immediately clear that the developers have made an Amiga specific version tailored to suit the OS and hardware. I’ve embedded a few screenshots below, so that you can see for yourself.
I’ve had a lot of fun playing Colonization on the Amiga in the past. It is a great strategy game, featuring nice graphics and very atmospheric colonial music. Speaking of music.. I’ve included the theme song from Colonization (Amiga version) for you to listen to below. Isn’t it nice? The screenshots in the video are from the PC version by the way..
Any other fans of Colonization out there? Would love to hear from you and your memories of the game. Thanks in advance for commenting!
Amiga – The Survivor (made by Eric W. Schwartz) – Good illustration of the Amiga.. in 2012 it is still alive and there is even a new magazine in the making!
