This week Fred flies solo to discuss the shoot-em-up (shmup) series Salamander, better known as Life Force in the United States. He discusses the various games from the arcade titles to the NES/Famicom port, to even the MSX and PC-Engine (Turbografx-16) ports. Additionally the connections to series Gradius are discussed and the various ways to play the games today. He also announces April's game club title.
I just had to re-blog this amazing post from Gaming History 101. It contains a podcast episode about Salamander/Life Force, one of my all-time favorite games.
Please spend some time listening to the podcast, as it contains a lot of interesting information on the game. :) Highly recommended!
I used to play the MSX-version quite a lot in the past and I still have my old cartridge in my collection. It is like a Holy Grail for me. ;)
Hope you'll enjoy it and that you'll pay Gaming History 101 a visit and support them with a comment.
It has been far too long since I posted on this blog. My last post was back in January 2013, which is several months ago. How time flies!
I’m going to start posting more often again. Spring is coming and with the sun and the warm weather comes extra energy for writing.
In the future I will write a bit more about SEGA related hardware and software, since I’ve started investigating this platform. I’ve never been a SEGA gamer, but it is never too late to start. Being a big fan of old-school shoot’em up’s, I’m going to try to track down some games belonging to that genre. If you have some SEGA shooters (or other types of games) to recommend, please comment below. Thanks in advance. By the way.. I got the Mega Drive console, which I think looks very nice.
This does not mean I won’t write about the Amiga of course, since that will always be my favorite platform.
Anyway, hope you all are doing well and that the retro gaming spirit is still burning out there.
Game on!
Before I forget.. have you seen the winner of the old school demo competition at the Revision 2013 party that was held during Easter? If not, please have a look at this splendid Amiga production below.. Lemon is back in action again!
PS: A special greeting must go out to Mads for waking me up from my slumber… hehe… thanks! Also greetings to all readers of my blog!

Hi guys,
Just found out about an awesome website called Blow the Cartridge. It contains a ton of retro gaming comics, inspired by your old favourite (or possible non favourite) games. You can even request the author to draw a comic for the game of your choice.

Here’s some statistics I got from WordPress.
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 52,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 12 Film Festivals
