Hi everyone,

Today I picked up a huge (and heavy..) box filled with various gaming and computer magazines at the post office. :) Won these at an auction site just a few days ago. Most of the magazines are in excellent order, some even in mint condition, but the issues of Amiga Forum and Megabyte have been exposed to the horror of a paper-punch machine.

This purchase has expanded my collection of magazines quite a lot. Now I’m going to start sorting them properly and make room for them in my computer-magazine shelf.

Here are some pictures of the mags. Enjoy!

Big Batch of Amiga Magazines

While browsing Amibay about a week ago, I discovered that a guy named Rolux was selling off his collection of Amiga magazines. Having a lot of holes to fill in my own collection, I quickly went through his list. I found many magazines that I didn’t have. I contacted him to make a deal and a short while later a big (and heavy!) package (which was filled to the brink with golden oldies) arrived.

The box contained 14 issues of a Norwegian Amiga magazine called Amiga Forum. These issues are from early 1992 to the latter half of 1994. All issues contains everything from reviews of games to AMOS tutorials.

Amiga Forum magazines

A big bunch of Amiga Forum magazines! Look it's Super Frog!

I did also receive several English magazines like Amiga Format, CU Amiga and Amiga World. I’m particularly pleased with the Christmas issue of Amiga Format from 1993, as it contains a ton of cool game reviews.

Check out the Christmas issue of Amiga Format on the right hand side of the picture.. awesome!

It’s great reading old magazines. I often find interesting information in them. Sometimes I discover an old game for the first time thanks to a review! Other times it happens that I learn something new about ageing hardware or find some programming tips concerning AMOS. All great stuff.

Speaking of reviews. I took a quick and dirty snapshot of a review of The Settlers from one of my new magazines. Have a look! :)

An old review of The Settlers for the Amiga. It scored 94%!

It’s safe to say that my collection has increased in size and quality after this purchase. A big thanks must go to Rolux on Amibay for quick dispatch and friendly communication.

Do you remember those good, old printed Amiga magazines? Did you use to spend time reading CU Amiga, The One, Amiga Action or Amiga Format?

If yes, then I’ve got some good news for you! Those nice blokes at the Amiga Magazine Rack have, with help from contributors, made many of these classic magazines available Online.

Amiga Magazine Rack The One

Want to read some reviews from the games magazine The One? Lot's of stuff available here!

The website was launched back in 2007 after more than two years of development. It has close ties with the Hall of Light (HOL) games database and there is a lot of cross-linking between the two of them. This has, according to the team, resulted in a bigger focus on the gaming aspect of the magazines. That’s good news for old-school gamers.

You’ll find all kinds of Amiga magazines on their website, from The Joker from Germany to Amiga Magazyn from Poland. The big ones (Amiga Power, CU Amiga etc) are of course present.

I think the Amiga Magazine Rack is a great website and I highly recommend visiting it. Have fun reading old reviews, rumours and feel the atmosphere of the good, old days!
