AmigaOS on Facebook

Hi guys,

I read on Amigaworld.net today that there is a page on Facebook dedicated to AmigaOS 4. You can find it by following the link below:

The Official AmigaOS 4 page on Facebook

The page is frequently updated and it contain a wide variety of information. Should be quite a helpful resource if you are interested in following the development of the OS and other stuff related to it. Had a look myself and I thought it looked quite nice. Will pop in from time to time to stay updated on what’s going on.

Speaking of AmigaOS 4, I’m still disappointed that the netbook Hyperion announced back in 2011 still hasn’t been released. Seems like the project has been cancelled or else we would probably have heard something by now. Time will show what happens I guess.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the AmigaOS page on Facebook! :)

Have a good one!

AmiWest Computer Show 2012

The logo of the AmiWest event (taken from http://www.amiwest.net)

Hi everyone,

Soon it’s time for another edition of the AmiWest Computer Show and a lot of people in the Amiga community are eagerly anticipating the event, myself included.

Since AmiWest takes place in Sacramento, California, I’ve got no possibility of attending, but hopefully they’ll stream video like last year. I still vividly remember Steven Solie bringing us news about the AmigaOS 4.x netbook, that was epic. Sadly we haven’t heard much about it afterwards, but maybe it’ll show up at AmiWest? Stranger things have happened..

The event takes place at the Ramada Plaza Cal Expo from the 19th of October to the 21st.

Hyperion Entertainment will be at AmiWest 2012.

Many exhibitors will be present at the event, such as Hyperion Entertainment (the developers of AmigaOS 4.x), AmigaKit (Amiga retailer) and A-EON (the creators of the AmigaOne X1000).

I’ve read the A-EON will have something major to show at AmiWest, but I’ve got no clue to what it is. Exciting! :) I do know though, that Steven Solie, AmigaOS 4.x developer, will lead a programming seminar, which I’m sure will be interesting to follow.

It was also surprising to see that Pagestream is back in business. This classic DTP software is under continuous development and will be represented by Chuck Washburn at AmiWest.

Are any of you attending the event? Do you know anything about what A-EON Technology is going to show at AmiWest?

Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

AmigaOS 4.x: Timberwolf Beta – Second Release

Hi  folks,

Yesterday I received an interesting message from an Amiga user that goes by the name Djrikki. He had some news concerning AmigaOS 4.x and the second beta release of Timberwolf. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Timberwolf, it is basically a port of Firefox to the AmigaOS 4.x operative system.

Here’s the message from Djrikki:

Hot on the heels of last month’s news that the Timberwolf (Firefox) Browser for AmigaOS had reached Beta status, we hear of yet another update for the AmigaOS platform (www.amigaos.net) – this is exciting news for the platform as a whole as it edges towards AmigaOS 4.2 and the promise of full Gallium/Mesa support to coincide with the release of the AmigaOS NetBook later this year.

That sounds good to me. :) I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the netbook and I know that many others are too. Let’s hope we’ll get some news concerning this from Hyperion Entertainment before the start of the summer.

Now, what has changed since Timberwolf entered the beta stage? Let’s have a look.

The main improvements are as follows:

  • Splash-screen during startup
  • Crash fixes. Clicking the ZIP-box no longer causes a crash.
  • Right-click pop-up menus work properly
  • Downloads works
  • Timberwolf now uses a native ASL file requester instead of the alien file picker

The latest version of Timberwolf is available for download at the OS4 Depot:

You can also find more information concerning the browser by visiting AmigaBounty.net through the link below:

Here’s a video created by Djrikki that shows Timberwolf running on an AmigaOS 4.x system. Please keep in mind that everything in the video is drawn using software rendering and that screen capturing software is running in the background. This has affected the performance. Enjoy! :)
