Exploring the rich past of gaming

Tag Archives: ZX Spectrum

This arrived in the mail today..

Hi guys,

Bought a few items off e-Bay the other day. You might think I bought stuff related to the Commodore 64/128 or the Amiga, but you are wrong.. I actually bought a nice bundle of Spectrum titles! :D I’ve got a sweet little ZX Spectrum as well, but unfortunately no tape or disk drive for it yet, but that will come. ;) Here are two pictures of the lot!

Hi everyone,

Recently, I’ve been spending some time watching demos made for exotic platforms such as the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and the MSX. There is a vast amount of good demos for these machines and it is simply amazing to see what people are able to get out of them.

Today I had a look at a demo called Aeon by Triebkraft and 4th Dimension. To keep it short, I was very, very impressed by what I saw (and heard.. awesome music!). It was released at the Ultimate Meeting back in 2008 and won the low-end demo competition. The party took place in Karlsruhe-Durlach in Germany and is usually rganized annually between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

I’ve embedded a YouTube video of the demo below, so that you can check it out yourself. It contains a lot of cool effects, catchy music and good-looking graphics. It’s incredible that it runs on a ZX Spectrum! Anyway, hope you’ll enjoy the demo as much as I did. :)

You can download the demo by clicking on the link below:

Did you enjoy the demo? :)

Hi guys,

When I logged into WordPress today, I noticed a brand new post from a blog I’m following. The name of the blog is RetroVGM and the author is a guy that goes by the name Phendrena (hi!). He has started a new section on his blog called Retro Around the Web, which will cover all kinds of retro game stuff on the Internet, but not only the usual topics. The first article is about a woman named Lucy Sparrow who designs retro game cushions. How awesome is that? :D In her Online shop, you’ll find several Nintendo themed cushions and also a Spectrum one. I told my better half about it and she thought it was cool – we’re definitely going to get hold of some of these for a future game room. Here’s a couple of pictures of her products:

Looks great if you ask me. :) After what I’ve read on Phendrena’s blog, there is a lot of hard work behind every single product.

I wonder if she could make (yes, you guessed it..) some Amiga themed ones? Maybe I’ll ask. ;) How about a Superfrog cushion or one based on Rainbow Islands?

If you want to check out Phendrena’s new section and blog, please follow this link: http://retrovgm.wordpress.com/2012/06/17/feltsewgood/
