As you know, I’ve been on the hunt for an Amiga CD32 for a short while now, but haven’t managed to find a decent unit yet. I’ve posted an advert on AmiBay, though, and have already received an answer from a trader. He’ll send me some pictures of a machine he has for sale on Tuesday. Can’t wait. 🙂 If it looks good, we might make a deal.

My collection of Amiga games is quite respectable, but the vast majority of titles are for floppy based machines. I only own a handful of Amiga CD32 games, like Pirates!: Gold (awesome!), The Chaos Engine and Sensible Soccer. I’ve therefore been doing some thinking about which originals I’d like to add to my Amiga CD32 collection. Already got many copies, but that just isn’t the same. Without further ado, here’s my list:

1. Banshee (Core Design) (One of my all-time favourite shooter’s, independent of platform)
2. Simon the Sorcerer (Adventure Soft) (I’ve got the original for the Amiga 1200, but hunger for the CD32 version with speech)
3. Superfrog (Team 17) (Epic platform game from Team 17. It’s a shame I don’t have it on floppy.)
4. Beneath a Steel Sky (Virgin Interactive) (Nice adventure-game with speech on the CD32)
5. Super Stardust (Bloodhouse) (Incredible graphics! Fun gameplay! Shoot’em up with a big “S”!)
6. Liberation (Byte Engineers) (Never played this one properly before, but looks very interesting)
7. Alien Breed 3D (Team 17) (It is a shame I don’t have an original of this game yet.. I’ve got Fears, I’ve got Death Mask, I’ve got Gloom, but not AB3D..)
8. Defender of the Crown II (Cinemaware) (I’ve heard that this one is a bit expensive.. anyone who knows?
9. UFO: Enemy Unknown (Microprose) (Turn-based strategy. A classic.)

OK, that’s my list so far. I fear that it will be difficult to obtain Defender of the Crown II, but time will show. 🙂 It’s always nice with a challenge anyway! 😉

The good thing about collecting games for the CD32 is the size of the game covers. Most ordinary Amiga titles comes in huge boxes, which means that they eat up a whole lot of precious space. It is the contrary with the small CD32 CD-cases. 🙂 We can therefore conclude that collecting CD32 games has a higher WAF (Wife Acceptancy Factor) than standard Amiga games.

I also have a few CD32 Gamer magazine in my possession, along with the CD’s that came with them. Might fill some holes here as well, but it is not a priority. As for Amiga magazines, I think it is much more fun to read CU Amiga, Amiga Format and Amiga Future than CD32 Gamer, even if there are some good reviews in that mag.
