Hi everyone,
Today I picked up a huge (and heavy..) box filled with various gaming and computer magazines at the post office. 🙂 Won these at an auction site just a few days ago. Most of the magazines are in excellent order, some even in mint condition, but the issues of Amiga Forum and Megabyte have been exposed to the horror of a paper-punch machine.
This purchase has expanded my collection of magazines quite a lot. Now I’m going to start sorting them properly and make room for them in my computer-magazine shelf.

Oh wow! I remember all of those and religiously reading every page, back in the day. They are even a fascinating read today, to see how they thought the future would be from back then. Congrats! Can you scan a few pages and let us all have a look? I would be very interested 🙂
Just pick some of your favourites as you come across them mate, I’m sure we will enjoy anything. Home Computer Weekly and Your Computer were probably my faves from the bunch. Anything to do with Sinclair would be nice, but commodore would also be appreciated 😉

Many thanks for your comment. 🙂 I know that several of my mags contains programming tutorials and such. Amiga Format, Amiga Computing and CU Amiga ran many tutorials for everything from AMOS to Assembler. Any specific languages you were thinking about? 🙂
Cheers. My plan is to source a few “old” magazines this year. I only got Dutch and German ones and I have one or two CU Amiga mags somewhere at my parents.

Har en pen bunke liggende i en eske på gutterommet hos foreldrene mine. Hadde i grunn vært artig å tatt dem frem igjen. Begynner å bli lenge siden sist jeg så i dem.

Some top quality reading material you’ve got there. Always loved the thick Amiga Format magazines. Not got many left but there’s a few remaining on my mag shelf.
Ah yes, I remember buying all my Amiga magazines with the demo disc every month, I think I had over 150+ demo discs haha, Amiga formay was my most favourite and the odd CU Amiga. Sadly I no longer have my magazines and demo disks, but I do have 2 Amiga 500’s, yeah!
I did however recently bought 160 discs worth of stuff for the amiga on ebay a couple of days ago and should arrive in the post any day now, most are demo discs from magazines :P.
I love the Amiga, even to this day its the best machine in the world, games were fun, music was awesome, the operating system never fails, put the disk in click on what you want and it goes, how simple is that, none of this firmware update crap or windows asking for permission to do something, every game that came out worked without needing to upgrade the graphics card or sound card etc, pretty much the only upgrade the Amiga had was a 512k ram extension that goes inside underneath and that is only if you wanted it not needed it, there were very very few games that needed it and over time out of the 1000+ games I had not one needed the ram, all it was for is to run quicker due to storing more data in the ram, some games actually requested to turn the ram off, can you imagine the PC telling you that lol. I remember copying International Karate+ to the ram once and typed the name in and pressed Enter and the game started instantly lol, I also had a couple of external floppy drives which again not needed but it just saved swapping disks on games that had alot of them. Amiga games seem to have had more heart put into their games, especially the music, Hybris, Battle Squadron, Lotus series, Turrican 2, Super Cars series, Operation Stealth, Xenon 2, Shadow Warriors to name a few.
Congratulations on your purchase of 160 floppies of e-Bay. Please feel free to post a picture of them – would love to this huge batch of goodies. Which mags are the discs mostly from by the way?

Many great games there.. seems like you’re into shoot’em up’s.. that’s good. 🙂 Xenon 2 is excellent and the same goes for Super Cars 1 and 2. Now I want to play Super Cars again after reading your comment. 😉 I think I have it on a compilation CD for my CD32. Must try it again soon.
Haha yeah, the sound of the screeching tyres in super cars was so realistic for its time, even Super Hang-On for the motorbike engine was awesome, nothing even sounds like this today and they use real sounds these days hahaha.
Just letting you know I received all the 262 Amiga discs, but very dissapointed with them since 99% of the demo discs from magazines have a big fat white sticker on them with other stuff copied over them, they have not been looked after and as a major Amiga fan it kills me to see them in such condition, about 30 of them don’t even have the metal disc shield on them, they have been pulled off for whatever reason… I am going to spend the next few days to see what I can actually use from the discs since I did spend $100 on them, I will give bad feedback to the ebay fella who does not deserve to even look at an Amiga. I love Amiga and as I said it kills me to see that people don’t care for their stuff for the Amiga. I have 2 Amiga 500 consoles and both are in mint condition still looks new in the whitish shine condition, unlike most yellowed ones you see on ebay….
I did however snap up a brand new sealed Amiga mouse which is cool and also a mint condition external floppy drive, the guy I bought from I have actually bought from a few times so he looks after me, he gave me for free 2x new black Amiga mouse pads with the commodore logo on it, looks cool.
I’m sorry to hear about your e-Bay purchase. That truly sucks. 😦 You must have been very disappointed when you opened the package. Can’t believe he would sell them in that condition, especially those 30 disks without metal shielding. I agree that negative feedback is appropriate, after all he was not honest in his description of the disks at all. Please let me know how it works out with the rest of the floppies.
Nice! Congratulations on the external drive and mice – those are pretty cool if I remember correctly. 🙂 Did you buy it from the guy that has hundreds upon hundreds of Amiga items for sale? I’ve bought stuff from him and he provided good service and quality stuff.
Yeah so annoying since I was a little excited to extend my amiga disk collection, I have gone through them, out the the 262 I managed to get a an original 3 disk Operation Stealth game, and an ok-ish utilities disk, Deluxe Paint 3 and pretty much it for the A500 side, there was however about 40-50 HD floppy discs which I am guessing are for teh A1200 which I will buy later in the year so I will hang on to them, as there are some original disks for Deluxe Paint 4 ‘AGA’ and Workbench 3.0 and alot of bits and peices which mostly all of the discs I received seem to have music samples on them all, so no magazine demo discs at all, they used to be as mentioned there are big white stickers over them with drums etc written on them. So I will see what samples are ok to keep and the rest well looks like I have a massive heap of disks that need formatting for other stuff….
As with my other purchases you mentioned a guy on ebay who has hundreds of Amiga items, sounds like it is the same person, his ebay name is ‘Jacks-Legacy’ and he is in Germany. He does provide great services…
I did come across another ebay fella who is selling CU Amiga magazines with the floppies, 28 mags in total, would cost alot to send over seas but I might have to buy a couple at a time, will see.
Good to hear that you found some working stuff among all those floppies. Deluxe Paint 4 AGA is a very nice drawing program, so that is a good find.
CU Amiga ruled! Have quite a few of these magazines in my collection. One thing I’m on the hunt for are issues of Amiga Power and The One. Loved reading those as well back in the days.

Not sure exactly what magazines the demo’s are from until I actually receive them, not all 160 are demo discs, most are games and some backups etc.
I actually had an other look, there are 262 discs in total, not sure where I got 160 from but even better anyways haha.
