Hi everyone,
It’s been quite a while since I last posted something about the Natami project. I haven’t heard much about how the team is doing lately, but after visiting their forum, I noticed that a lot is happening behind the scenes. Some of the team members have been posting links to pictures of the MX-board in action and they also write a bit about the progress. 🙂 It seems to me that they are on a steady road towards completion. I’m sure you are eager to see the screenshots I found, so here they are:
The screenshot above was taken by Andre Jernung. I found it in this thread at the Natami forum. Here’s his description of the picture: “I took some screenshots of my Natami system with SGrab. It is currently running in SAGA planar modes, here in 1280×1024 (SXGA). No RTG is involved, this is a 100% Amiga native mode and screen draggable. WB with some tests and pictures (System runs a rev. 6 ceramic RC68060, currently clocked at 100MHz“
Rune Stensland is responsible for the picture above. Here’s the thread it was posted in. He writes: “My full rev 6 Mc68060(with fpu mmu) is running stable at 100mhz without a fan. I have managed to boot at 110mhz“. I’ve included another picture below from the same author:
Hope you enjoyed these pictures. 🙂 Hopefully we’ll get some more detailed information some time in the near future. I’d love to see a few short videos of the performance of the system. If they could show us a couple of demos, some 3D rendering and general Workbench usage, then that would be great. I’m also curious, as a retro-gamer, about how Alien Breed 3D 2 and other FPS-games performs on this setup.
I did also stumble across a new AROS distribution that is called AROS Vision. Seems like there is now a definite link between the AROS operative system and the Natami. You can find more information about it by following this link. Definitely something I must investigate further. It’s safe to say that AROS is getting better and better these days and that it is gaining in popularity as well. An example of this is the news reported by Paolo Besser today. He states that the new version of Icaros Desktop (an AROS distribution) has been downloaded over 2,700 times since it was released a week ago. It’s worth noting that these statistics don’t include those who downloaded the light version, so the number of downloads are probably much higher.
Hope you’ve found this post interesting and that you enjoyed the pictures. 🙂 What are your thoughts concerning the Natami and AROS? Please leave a comment below. Would love to hear your thoughts. 🙂
Interesting. I certainly am interested in Aros on classic (A1200) hardware. It will be a bit of a choice between Natami and the OS4 netbook. Unless cash is no issue. 🙂

Both the Natami and the OS4 netbook is definitely something I’d like to own. The problem is the pricing of the Natami. I think it will be quite expensive. The OS4 is more within my budget. I’m ready to make some sacrifices though, which means that I’ll consider selling parts of my collection of hardware and software. Time will show. 😉

The netbook really has the better price tag. But if the Natami is close and my A1SE is still running who knows? 🙂

I know, it’s hard to keep up with everything! 🙂 FPGA Arcade Replay board is definitely worth checking out though.. I’ve seen some clips on YouTube and it is almost like a regular Amiga.

Hi there Alphadec,
Sorry for late reply, but went through my comments and noticed I hadn’t answered this one.
The Natami Project is almost dead. The founder, Thomas, decided to cancel the project. It has been said that he might be doing some work on it in private, but no one knows anything about it. A lot of people are disappointed about this, but fear not.. there are plenty of other exciting things happening in the Amiga world these days! 😉
