AROS (Amiga) and the Raspberry Pi

Hi guys,

There has been a lot of talk about the Raspberry Pi lately. I found some cool videos by ClusterUK Development on YouTube about the new relationship between AROS, an Amiga operating system, and the Raspberry Pi. Thought you might enjoy watching them. πŸ™‚

I’ve promised myself that this will be the week that I’ll install AROS on my old laptop. There is no way back now.. πŸ˜‰

Most of all I’d like to get hold an AmigaOS 4.x compatible system, but they are pretty expensive and I really can’t justify spending that much cash on another machine. I was hoping that the frequently discussed AmigaOS netbook would arrive in the near future, but as far as I’ve heard from other sources, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be out before Christmas or sometime next year. Meanwhile, AROS is getting better and better every week. We can clearly see that in the increasing interest the OS has received from a wide variety of sites on the Internet. The different distributions of it looks cool as well. I’ve even noticed that a German business, Vesalia, is selling AROS compatible systems!

Can’t wait to give it a try myself. πŸ™‚ I’ll let you know when I have and I really want to do a video of it in action as well.

    • Hi there,

Glad you enjoyed the post. πŸ™‚ Hope you’ll give AROS a try. Please let me know what you think of the OS afterwards. I recommend the Icaros distribution to start with. πŸ™‚

  1. I know this is a dumb question, but what exactly is the Raspberry Pi? Is a small motherboard or a peripheral.

    • Hi mate,

Thanks for commenting! πŸ™‚ Good to hear from you again.

There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers. πŸ˜‰

The Raspberry Pi is basically a mini-computer (about the size of a small mobile phone), which you can hook up to your TV for example. Despite the fact that it is small, you can play hi-def video, play games, work with DTP and so forth. It’s very cheap and affordable.
