Rise of the Robots on the SEGA Genesis: Video Review by Stan Burdman

Hi guys,

Back in April last year I wrote a review of the Amiga CD32 version of Rise of the Robots. While browsing YouTube, I found a video review of the SEGA Genesis (MegaDrive) edition of the game by Stan Burdman. 🙂 I’ve only played ROTR on the Amiga, so it was interesting to see how it looked on the SEGA. Apparently the game wasn’t very playable on that platform either.. 😉

I’ve embedded it below, so that you can check it out yourself. Hope you’ll enjoy it!

What is your opinion about the Rise of the Robots? Hope to hear from you. 🙂

  1. The first I saw this game was in the spanish PCMagazine. It looked cool at that time, you know, robots fighting, was like a cool idea. After a couple of months, when I was able to play it, I somehow felt disappointed because of the gameplay. It didn’t feel smooth at all. The graphics for the time, I need to say that were impressive, but a game without a proper gameplay is a big fail in my list. Nice blog man!

  2. Funny enough, I’ve been doing the same thing myself – althougn on the SNES. I’d only played it on the CD32 before and read with interest a review that scored it highly on the via an old copy of C&VG Magazine….oh dear….yup, it’s terrible on the SNES too. It’s a shame really as the presentation is spot on and the character animation is actually rather good. It’s just a shame that’s there’s practically no game whatsoever at all. Suffice to say, Rise of the Robots will continue to be given away as a booby prize for the loser at RCM gaming competitions 🙂

  3. I never got to play this game, but every review of it I see or read just gets worse and worse. It is incredible how the programmers could allow this to be released like that. I would feel ashamed. If a bad game is business I understand, but not THIS!

  4. I dunno – there were worse games though RoTR did STINK. Promised so much, delivered so little. Thought the Amiga version of Street Fighter 2 was pretty ropey tbh.

    • Hi there Ljofa,

Many thanks for visiting my blog and for commenting. 🙂

Street Fighter 2 was pretty bad on the Amiga compared to other platforms. Wasn’t the SNES version outstanding in comparison?

  5. I remember renting this game, going home, putting it in the Genesis, playing it, shutting off the Genesis, going back to the rental store, and renting Flashback for the umpteenth time because “Rise of the Robots” was just so boring.
