Gaming on AmigaOS 4.1: Tower 57 (Benitosub)

Hi and thanks for visiting the Gaming on AmigaOS 4 blog. 🙂 Today I’m going to write about a game called Tower 57. There was a big Kickstarter campaign that ended up very successful and one of the stretch-goals was that it got Amiga ports. It is currently available on Steam, AmigaOS 4.1 FE, MorphOS and AROS. There is also a version for the upcoming Tabor system from A-Eon Technologies.

System Requirements

To be able to run Tower 57, you’ll need one of the following Amiga configurations:

AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 1 >= 600 MHz, Gfx-card with Compositing support
MorphOS >= 3.9 + SDK >= 3.10, >= 600 MHz, Gfx-card with TinyGL support
AROSx86 (e.g. Icaros Desktop >= 2.2), Gfx-card with Mesa3D support

The game costs $11.99 and can be bought from here.


After buying the game, you need to download the archive and unpack it on your HD. Then run the installer tool and follow the progress. The game will look for updates when you run it, so if there is some bug fixes or similar, these will be downloaded directly.


I had previously played the PC version on Steam, so I was familiar with the game from before. It is a very nice action-adventure game and I was very eager to see it play on my AmigaOne XE.

The storyline is as follows:

In a dystopian, dieselpunk world, where Megatowers are the only enclaves of civilization, a group of extraordinary individuals is sent to infiltrate the reclusive Tower 57. Their skills, clips’ capacity & the ability to cooperate will decide on their fate.

Tower 57 is a TOP-DOWN TWIN STICK SHOOTER with 16-bit inspired pixel art, destructible environments and heavy focus on CO-OP. It is also a modern take on what made AMIGA games so great back in the days. (source:

Several resolutions to choose from! Sadly I only had a Radeon 7000 in my computer, but I’m sure those of you with X5000’s really can benifit from high resolutions. 😉

This is the menu-screen where you can start a new game, continue from a saved one and so forth.

Let us start a new game and choose characters! Each characters has its strengths and weaknesses. Choose carefully and make a good combination. You can switch between them as you play. If all three dies, you are game over. Fortunately you can revive characters in a few ways inside the game. 😉

As you can see from the screenshots, the game looks great! It plays fine as well. 🙂

If you remember Chaos Engine on classic Amiga, this game is a bit similar in some respects. Although, Tower 57 is much more advanced with shops, weapon (and other stuff) vending machines and so on. You can also interact with the world in ways like blowing up crates, pipes, furniture and what not. Sometimes these yields treasure. There are also many hidden passages throughout the levels… In short, lot’s of stuff to explore, as well as plenty of action. 😉


I was happy to see Tower 57 running so well on my AmigaOne XE. It must have been optimized quite a lot by Daytona who ported it! 🙂 My first impressions are good and I look forward to playing the Amiga version more.

So, if you’re interested in a new game for AmigaOS 4.1 FE, I recommend getting this one. It is cheap, fun to play and you can do play it again and again without the same characters each time.
