Hi guys,
Yesterday I got my old SVI Spectravideo 738 out of storage and today I decided to take it for a test-drive. This computer is very special to me, since it was the first one I owned. We bought it at a shop called Spaceworld in Tønsberg in the middle of the 1980’s and I can still remember that day so vividly. 🙂 Good times!
It had been quite a while since I last used the computer. Back in 2016 I wrote a text about it with many pictures, so it had not been turned on for a couple of years. I was eager to see if it still worked properly.

After hooking up all the cables (PSU and RF-cable), it was time to turn it on. It worked right away and it was a joy seeing that nice, blue MSX Basic screen on the TV again. Very nostalgic!
Tried many games, but unfortunately one of the floppies has stopped working. However, the others works like they used to after all these years. Played Time Rider, Frogger, Knightmare, Salamander, Circus Charlie, Oh Shit! and many more. 🙂 Below you’ll see two pictures of Knightmare in demo-mode.

I’m definitely going to use this computer for some gaming, but also to discover other opportunities, in the near future. One day I hope to be able to complete Salamander! 😉 Would also be fun to see what kind of programs you can run on it and how the development tools are.
Hope you all will have a great Christmas when the time comes (only a few days left now until Christmas eve) and thanks for reading. 🙂
PS: Many years ago I wrote an article about “Gaming on the SVI Spectravideo”. Please check it out. 🙂
There is a world of old-school pc games to play and download for free.
