Gaming on AmigaOS 4.1: Grimps (Goblin Grotto)

Hello and welcome to a new post here on the Gaming on AmigaOS 4.1 blog!

This time we’re going to have a look at a puzzle game called Grimps. It was released by Goblin Grotto back in 2018.

Grimps should run on all AmigaOS 4 configurations, including WinUAE.

Installation

As usual we must head over to OS4Depot to get hold of the file. In this case you can just click on the link below and it will automatically download.

http://os4depot.net/share/game/puzzle/grimps.lha

To install the game, enter the directory of the file and then right-click on the appropriate icon. Select “extract to” and choose the destination folder the game should be unpacked to.

After it has been unpacked, head over to the directory of the game and double-click on the icon. The game should start right away.

Gameplay

So, what is Grimps all about? We know that it is a puzzle game, but what is the story it builds on? Let us see what the authors have written about this:

Once there was a bustling metropolis located in a beautiful snowy valley. Its buildings were made of the purest ice that would spark and glimmer in the arctic sun. One misty night earth shook and terrified squeaks echoed throughout the valley; the very next morning the frosty city was no more. Travelers who journeyed close to the valley say that during the nights you can hear distant and forlorn squeaks from where the city once was. Some penguins mustered enough strength to enter the valley despite the horrible tales. Of all those who entered, none has ever returned.

It is with this scenario in mind that your goal is to set out and rescue the other penguins. Beware though, zombie penguins and grimps will be in your way, as well as puzzles to remove obstacles blocking your path.

Now, let’s have a go at the game. ๐Ÿ™‚

The menu appears.

The border can be changed! Let’s get a more Amiga orientated one. ๐Ÿ™‚
That’s more like it!
The game has now begun.
Solving a puzzle by moving blocks.
Penguins asking for help!
It gets more difficult for each level.
Look at the grimps!
Having problems solving a puzzle? Hit “shift” to restart. ๐Ÿ™‚

Controls are straight forward. Cursor keys are used to move the hero around, “Shift” to restart and “Escape” to quit the game. To move blocks, push the appropriate cursor key in the direction you want to move them.

I’ve not played through the whole game, but it starts off easy and then gets harder and harder.

There is a password system, so that you can continue from the last level you completed at a later date.

As you can see from the screenshots above, Grimps sports some cosy graphics. The background music is also very good, creating an overall nice atmosphere.

If you enjoy playing puzzle games, I definitely think you should download Grimps and give it a try. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also recommend downloading it to others as well of course. The game is free, so please consider giving it a try. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That was all for this time. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for reading and see you in another post here on the Gaming on AmigaOS 4.1 blog!
