Hi and welcome to a new game review on the Gaming on AmigaOS 4.1 blog! Thanks so much for visiting. 🙂
Today I’ve had a look at a platform game that was created by Gabortorok and released back in 2003. It was later on ported to AmigaOS 4 by Richard Drummond. The name of the game is Abe’s Amazing Adventure and it should work without any problems on all AmigaOS 4 setups, including emulation with WinUAE.
Installation
The game can be obtained by downloading it directly from OS4Depot.net via the link below:
http://os4depot.net/share/game/platform/abe.lha
The file is about 3 MB in size.
Installation is pretty straight forward and does not take more than a couple of minutes. Once you’ve done downloading the file, head on over to its directory and right-click on it. Select “extract to” and then choose the wanted destination. The game will then unpack and be ready to go. Navigate to its drawer and double-click on the icon named “Abe” to start the game.
Gameplay
According to the author of the game, he made Abe’s Amazing Adventure to show young people (he wrote it for his son’s birthday) all the cool games they missed from the early days of computing and gaming. Due to this, one can probably see similarities in style to old platform games on the Commodore +4, ZX Spectrum and MSX.
Abe’s Amazing Adventure is a classic platform game where you navigate through tunnels underground (in some cases also outside) collecting keys, ballons and diamonds. You have to avoid obstacles in your way, like dangerously hot fire traps, spiders, bats and even polar bears! To advance further down, you’ll have to open doors along the way, which is why you must pick up all the keys you can get on your journey. If you find yourself in trouble, using a balloon to fly can be pretty helpful. There’s also medikits to pick up, which will replenish your health.
Now, what is the main story of the game?
Here is a picture that provides us with an overview:

So, how does the game play? Let’s have a go to find out. 🙂

As you can see from the screenshots, Abe’s Amazing Adventure is a platform game that resembles some of those we’ve seen on older platforms. It plays pretty well I think, with controls that are easy to get to grips with, not too hard difficulty and with an overall nice atmosphere to it. 🙂
Thanks for reading this review and hope you will come back later to check other views for games on AmigaOS 4 in the future.
