After the AmiWest stream, I got the inspiration to finally write about something I’ve had in my mind for some time.

As many of you know, AmigaOS 4 can run many programs that was made for classic Amiga’s, since it has in-built emulation of the Motorola 680×0. If you are interested in learning more about how this works, you can find information about it here. This does not help with games requiring the custom chips of the classics however, so with those one must use E-UAE (preferebly combined with RunInUAE).

Now, what I had on my mind was those old games made to run in a window on the Workbench screen. You can find many of them on Aminet for example. Would these work on AmigaOS 4? Only one way to find out, namely testing them.

So, from time to time during the last months, I’ve downloaded old Workbench games and given them a go in AmigaOS 4. The result?

I can happily report that many works like intended! Some ran too fast (this might be adjustable with configuring the internal emulator, but have not tried that yet), a few crashed, but overall the result was very positive.
