Hi there and welcome to another game review here on the Gaming on AmigaOS 4 blog!
Today I’m going to write about an open-source platform game called SuperTux.
The system I’ve used for testing is a Sam460ex with a RadeonHD graphics card and with the latest AmigaOS 4.1 update installed. According to the documentation on OS4Depot, the game requires at least AmigaOS 4.1.
I took screenshots with my mobile phone, so the game looks much better on the screen than in the pictures presented below. 😉
Installation
You can grab SuperTux directly from OS4Depot by clicking on the link below:
http://os4depot.net/share/game/platform/supertux.lha
The archive only takes up 9 MB of space, so should be quick to download. Once finished, head over to where you saved the file, right-click on it and select “extract to”. Then choose where you want to unpack it. To start the game, enter its directory and double-click on the icon of the game. The title-screen will then appear and you are good to go. 🙂
Gameplay
If you’ve played games liker Super Mario Bros. and The Great Giana Sisters in the past, you will feel right at home with SuperTux. It follows the same basic principles as those games, which you will see from the screenshots below. 🙂
Now, what is the story behind the game?

The Story: Penny Gets Captured!
Tux and Penny were out having a nice picnic on the ice fields of Antarctica. Suddenly, everything was a blur as Tux was knocked out!
When Tux wakes up, he finds that Penny is missing. Where she lay before now lies a letter. “Tux, my arch enemy!” says the letter. “I have captured your beautiful Penny and have taken her to my fortress. The path to my fortress is littered with my minions. Give up on the thought of trying to reclaim her, you haven’t got a chance! -Nolok”
Tux looks and sees Nolok’s fortress in the distance. Determined to save his beloved Penny, he begins his journey through the Icy Island and beyond. (source: https://www.supertux.org/discover.html)
It’s time to give the game a go. Let’s start playing!

So, what are my impressions after playing SuperTux on AmigaOS 4.1?
First of all I must say that the game runs smooth and fast on the Sam460ex in fullscreen. The game looks and plays very well too and I found myself enjoying it quite a lot. Having played similar games in the past, it did not take long to get to grips with controls and how to play it. There are secrets to found, power-ups to pick up and coins to collect, enemies to jump on or avoid. The audio is also nice I think. It starts of easy, but gets more difficult as you progress through the levels.
All in all, I had fun playing SuperTux and if you like platform games, then I highly recommend you install it on your AmigaOS 4.1 system. 🙂 Thumbs up!
