Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting my blog!
My Amiga “career” started with an Amiga 500 many, many years ago. Bought it in the city of Tønsberg in Norway. The shop was Spaceworld. Best purchase I’ve ever made! Over the years I’ve had many computers, and at one point entered the world of Amiga NG – AmigaOne / Sam / AmigaOS 4. Had a good time for years, but now I’m back where I started, with an Amiga 500 (but, expanded with ACA500+ etc.). Hence the title “There and Back Again”.
The modern world, with all its technical developments is going extremely fast, and my Amiga 500 has now become my go-to space for relaxing and escaping it, to enjoy “slow” computing, but with new games, programs and so forth, and of course having fun with the classics. With no AI, no mails, no Internet (yes, not at the moment) etc., it is like a detox. 😀
As some of you might have noticed, I have not published any AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup’s lately. The months May and June are missing. I just logged into the blog and found messages here from people asking what is going on. Sorry I have not seen them earlier, but I will provide you with an answer in this blog post.
Sadly, but such things happen, my motivation for using AmigaOS 4 and writing the roundups and doing all the work around connected to it, reached a low not long ago. I therefore decided to sell my A1222+ (have kept the Sam440).
This is a hobby and I was into it for the fun and to support the platform and its developers, but unfortunately the joy with AmigaOS 4 disappeared and the interest waned.
Also, I miss the freedom to write about all kinds of topics, when I want to. 🙂 Doing the roundups for so long, it started hanging over me, and I could see the days nearing the end of the month coming, and then had to put in more work to get it done, a bit like a real job. 😉 That said, the workload was not huge, but enough that I started lately to feel a bit trapped by it. Hope you understand. 🙂
Now, some of you might say that I could start using AI to summarize the news…
AI could probably gather the news from different sources and write snippets about all the latest releases, create the thumbnails, in short, take over the whole show! It has become so advanced, that it could do this whole blog even! But then, what is the point? It would not be my project and blog like it used to, with typos, Norwegian-English, and so forth. This is of course a personal choice, and everyone is different.
Old School Game Blog is a blog, a place where I can publish stuff and share my thoughts. I’m not tempted to let AI into this space. For regular work I feel it is different, but this is a free zone and a place to get some rest and escape the usual modern world.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported the blog, read it, commented, spread the links, talked about it, provided me with special news… You are awesome! 🙂 I’m very thankful for everyone’s support over the years.
Also big thanks to developers, creators, users of the AmigaOne / AmigaOS 4 platform for keep the scene alive and a fun community to be part of! Maybe the joy will be rekindled for me in the future? Who knows? Time will show. 🙂 Still have the Sam440 here.
As for now, this is my farewell with the AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup. And, I will not be surprised if it shows up somewhere else with a different author(s)! Someone needs to spread the good news, right? 🙂
Thanks, and have a nice Sunday!
Best regards,
Puni – AmigaOldSkooler

Same situation with me TBH. There is zero sign of life from Hyperion, developers have bolted, and the user base keeps shrinking. There’s so much more life elsewhere, so my hobby time is on older Commodore systems, especially using my MEGA65.
Hopefully things will improve, but at this point, I’m only checking on things every once in a while, and progress just never happens.

Thank you for all the beautiful work you have done in your blog, and for the reviews of my Amiga music. I will never forget, as I am extremely grateful for that. I totally respect and understand how life can kick in unexpected. Health and care come first always. God bless you and your family, and take good care of yourself and yours.

I understand you completely appreciate the work you did on the blog, even if was just a hobby, easy to feel exhausted basically working two jobs, a hobby is something one does not because you must, but because you want to. Ignore the fools who demand updates.. They have no idea, not worth your time. If anyone feel that strongly about it, they write their own blogs, or software.
