This is just in from AmiWest..
Hyperion Entertainment announces a netbook for AmigaOS 4!
Yes, it is true! π (I know, I know.. I had to read the news a few times myself to prove that my eyes read the text correctly.. ;))
In a few months, you’ll actually be able to purchase a netbook running AmigaOS. I’m incredibly happy about this and I can’t wait to purchase it.
The price range will apparently be between $300 and $500 (subject to change) and the release date in Q1/Q2 2012.
That is what I call affordable hardware and I’m positive that this will attract many people to the world of AmigaOS 4. Way to go Hyperion!
Discussions are currently running wild on various message boards.. here’s a few of the threads that I’m following:
OS4 Netbook in 2012? at Amigaworld.net
Hyperion announce 12″ netbook running AmigaOS at Amiga.org
Enjoy the news! π
Orgin at Amigans.net write as follows:
“Price: $300 – $500 including OS4 license.
It’s a specific AmigaOS product. PowerPC based.
Prototype has external VGA port.
Prototype can use external USB mouse and keyboard.
Delivered with OS4 preinstalled”
Awesome! π

Maybe it would be a combined release of the netbook + OS4.2 π

That could happen. π I’m sure your AmigaOne would love to receive a small make-over though.. π

Sounds great, if it actually ever hits the market.

Hi there Jos,
Thank you for your comment. π
From what I’ve read at Amigaworld.net and Amigans.net, I’m quite sure the computer will be released. π Let’s hope that it arrives as early as possible in 2012!
Are you going to get one?

At that price? Hell yeah.

I’ve read that the prototype has built-in wireless. π Check out the thread at Amigans.net, you’ll find info about it there. π

I read it would be more in the middle of 2012 for a release. I actually overlooked the wireless part. That is really going to be cool.

Wireless is awesome. π
Middle of 2012 is not that long away, but I really hope it will be out sooner. π Guess Q1 is out of the question then.

Very interesting device=) I hope it will be available in Russia… ‘Cause AmigaOne 500 is sure NOT available.

Let’s hope so mate! π Are there any Amiga shops in Russia by the way?

Nope. Not a single one. I myself tried only Icaros Desktop on VB… But still it would be interesting to try real Amiga device… Maybe some PC-shop just will try something exotic=)

That’s sad. There are Amiga shops in Spain, Poland, England and Germany though. Maybe they ship to Russia?

Does AmigaKit not ship to Russia?

To Coder.
Russia are not joined EU so… Shipping will be really expensive. And troublesome.

Well, in my last post I asked for a more affordable option and here it is! I’ll have to wait for a review once it’s released but it looks very promising.

I remembered your comment when I saw the news concerning the AmigaOS 4 compatible netbook. π Looking forward to both previews and reviews as well. If the reviews are good, are you going to get one?

If the reviews are good then I will most likely get one! I’ve never used AmigaOS 4 but it looks like a fun OS to play on. Also, more hardware that can run the OS means there’s more incentive for developers to develop for the platform. π

Cool! AmigaOS 4 needs more software, especially native. I agree with what you say about more hardware and incentive. More users means more developers which again means more software for end-users. π I really hope that this netbook will turbo-charge the increase in the amount of OS 4 users. Fingers crossed! π
